Train Your Forklift Drivers
Update the knowledge of your forklift drivers.
Overall Responsibility for Training
In general, it is the responsibility of the employer to conduct training. The employer can delegate this obligation to managers. Training must be conducted before starting a task and then at regular intervals - at least once a year.
Once the training is conducted, it is important to actually achieve the desired goals. This means consistently monitoring whether employees are behaving as agreed during the training. This also means that supervisors must support the training goals in practice.
Annual Training for Forklift License Renewal
With around 14,000 accidents involving industrial trucks in one year, the need is clear.
By providing annual training for forklift drivers, you bring the participants' knowledge up to date with the latest safety measures in handling industrial trucks.
The annual training for forklift drivers aims to refresh their knowledge, inform them about new regulations and best practices, and raise awareness of potential hazards. The specific content of the training may vary depending on the company and legal requirements.
Contents of the Annual Training
- An update on the applicable laws, regulations, and provisions related to the operation of forklifts, including labor law provisions, occupational safety regulations, and traffic regulations
- Important safety measures and procedures to be observed when operating forklifts. These include correct loading and unloading of loads, driving in curves and on ramps, avoiding overloading, proper stacking of goods, and safe entry and exit from the forklift.
- Raising awareness of potential hazardous situations, such as collisions with other vehicles or pedestrians, tipping of the forklift, pinching body parts, or accidental contact with power lines. Training on risk recognition and preventive accident avoidance.
- Guidelines for regular maintenance and inspection of forklifts, including checking brakes, steering, tires, and other important components. The importance of reporting defects or deficiencies should be emphasized.
- Guidance on proper response in emergency situations, such as fire, accidents, or gas leaks. Information on evacuation plans, locations of fire extinguishers, and other safety devices.
- Tips and techniques for maintaining an ergonomically correct posture and movement during forklift operation to prevent muscle tension and injuries. Instructions for avoiding fatigue and complying with appropriate break and rest times.
- General operational behavior
This fulfills the requirements of DGUV Regulations 1 and 68, the content of DGUV Regulations, as well as the BetrSichV and the Occupational Safety and Health Act.
All employees who have a forklift license, have been authorized by the employer, and employees who operate industrial trucks only occasionally or sporadically must be trained.
The documentation should be kept for two years to be able to provide proof of training if necessary (fulfillment of obligations) and to have an overview of the training content and participants.
Usually, the training records are scanned and filed in folders or stored on network drives. This involves considerable effort and can quickly become confusing.
